A precious metal
Prose, Poetry, and Essays
It is not stupid; alchemy. It’s Impossible.
Pick up a small flat piece of Gold. Just a gram of it. Let your eye capture the depth of its color, the shine, the way it’ll reflect light. It gets brighter the longer you look. It gets brighter without hurting the eye. You will not be able to look away. It quickly starts becoming less wonder why some wanted more of it. All of it. Millions have wasted away before it. In search of it. Or in yearning for more. For millennia, men have tried to recreate it. For all our prowess, we cannot replicate it. Hundreds of acclaimed men have one uniformly failed experiment amongst their range of successes — that of trying to manufacture Gold.
